ALMERIA is keen to keep up the momentum of this year’s national gastronomy capital status.
In a bid to ensure the city becomes further established as a ‘foodie’ tourist destination, the city council has devised a fresh marketing strategy for next year.
Speaking at the inauguration of the fourth ‘Almeria beyond 2019 Ideas Forum, Almeria Mayor Ramon Fernandez-Pacheco unveiled a new slogan for 2020: ‘Almeria Ciudad Gastronomica. Para comersela’, translating more or less as ‘Almeria Gastronomy City. Irresistible.”
he council leader also revealed there will be a new headquarters for activities promoting cuisine in the city’s central market and an annual gastronomy congress which promises to bring together top professionals and the best of national cuisine.
Further plans include creating a sticker related to heritage and gastronomy to go on all products exported from Almeria, creating a network of gastro cities and a map of local dishes. Also linking heritage and cuisine and strengthening the connection between health and diet under the slogan ‘Almeria puerta de dieta mediterranea’, or Almeria gateway to the Mediterranean diet.
