VELEZ MALAGA and Torre del Mar have enjoyed a successful summer season according to the town council.
The councillor of Tourism, Jesus Perez Atencia has made the announcement as the first of October marked the official end of the summer season.
Although concrete figures are expected to be released regarding the local economy in the coming weeks, a stand out statistic was that hotels in the region maintained a 95% occupancy rate, one of the highest on record.
Hostels recorded an incredible 96% whilst campsites experienced near capacity bookings of 98%.
Atencia has noted an increase of foreign travellers to the area, particularly from France, Belgium and Holland.
Velez Malaga has made a distinct effort with the current government to enhance the tourist industry in the area, with events such as the Torre del Mar air show and the Weekend Beach Festival bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the region.
