ALTEA is hosting the premiere of the first opera written and sung in Valenciano.

“Fra Pere el Descalç”, which will be performed at the Virgen del Consuelo parish church at 7.30pm on October 19, was composed by Francesc Estevez Alvarez with libretto by Lluis Fornes, “El Sifoner.”

It tells the story of Pare Pere Esteve who was born in Denia in 1583 and lived at the foot of Montgo, spending his time in meditation and prayer.

The Virgen del Consuelo’s capacity for the 150-minute long opera is limited to 350 and the €10 cost of tickets for the performance will go to the parish for important repairs to the church building.

Linda came to Spain to live when she was 24, just over 52 years ago, and her husband is Spanish. She began writing for English-language local newspapers in the mid-1970s and hasn’t stopped since! She leads a Spanish life, which she believes is vital when conveying the news to English-speaking residents, and along the way she produced two editions of Expand Your Spanish, helping English-speakers to enlarge their knowledge of the language. She was excited to be in at the birth of the Euro Weekly News in 1999 and is still passionately writing for the paper 22 years later.
