THE Netball Fun Day raised more than €12,000 for cancer charities.
Although planned as a fun event, it was held in memory of two members of the Alfaz Netball team, Lynne Ward and Caroline Lambert, who both lost their lives to cancer at the end of last year.
Lisa Griffin, from Brew Rock in Albir, organised the event which started with a netball tournament for teams from Javea, Rojales, Torrevieja, La Manga and Pinoso as well as Alfaz.
Sponsors included bars, firms and businesses from Albir, Alfaz and Benidorm who provided prizes for the fundraising raffles and draws.
The day started at mid-day with the netball tournament which ended with the Alfaz and Rojales teams in the final, which was won by Rojales.
This was followed by lunch at 3pm and music throughout the rest of the day from rock groups and an Irish band as well as the tournament prize-giving for winners and finalists, attended by Alfaz mayor Vicente Arques and Sports councillor Oscar Perez.
