Wave of demonstrations across Spain today as part of global fight against climate change

THREE hundred organisations across Spain are joining the global wave of climate strikes today to demand urgent action on the escalating ecological emergency.

Global Climate Strike (September 20 to 27) has seen millions of people from 150 countries stepping up to support young climate strikers and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels.

People worldwide, young and old, have walked out of schools and the workplace to stage events and demonstrations to mark World Climate Strike.

The worldwide movement culminates a key week in the fight against climate change which saw major announcements by government and private sector leaders at the United Nations Climate Action Summit on Monday.

During the summit, 65 countries committed to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, while 70 countries announced they will either boost their national action plans by 2020 or have started the process of doing so.

Closing the Summit, UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres urged leaders to stop talking, to act, and do it now.

“You have delivered a boost in momentum, cooperation and ambition. But we have a long way to go.

“We need more concrete plans, more ambition from more countries and more businesses. We need all financial institutions, public and private, to choose, once and for all, the green economy.”
