TODAY is World Tourism Day and over 30 museums and monuments in Malaga have free entry to celebrate this date and commemorate an industry of vital importance to publicise, preserve and enjoy cultural heritage.
For the World Tourism Organisation, the purpose of this celebration is to raise awareness among the international community about the social, cultural, political and economic value of tourism. Specifically, cultural tourism plays a very important role for local and regional development as it is a positive instrument to publicise, preserve and enjoy cultural heritage. Andalusia in general and Malaga in particular are visited by millions of tourists from both Spanish autonomous communities and other countries.
Its impact on education, society and the economy is considered an engine of development for the population involved.
