AN EMT bus caught fire on Avenida at Blasco Ibáñez on Tuesday and billowing smoke could be seen from around the city.
The fire broke out at around noon when the vehicle was to reportedly full of passengers. The incident is believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure and the bus was devoured by the flames very quickly.
Fortunately people in cars that were passing the bus alerted the driver to the fire who tried to put it out himself and evacuate the passengers. Nobody was injured in the fire. Police closed the road and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire
The fire comes after Valencia agreed to invest €65 million to purchase at least 150 new buses – although the bus that caught fire was not an old vehicle.
The bus has been taken to the company depot to investigate what the cause of the blaze.
