BEER lovers from across Andalucía descended on Torrox for the 2019 Oktoberfest Festival last weekend.

The famous international festival was launched on Friday 20 September with an opening ceremony held by the mayor of Torrox, Oscar Medina, the councillor of Commerce, Sandra Extremera and the consul of Germany in Malaga, Arnulf Braun.

Throughout the three day event, thousands of beer enthusiasts turned out to celebrate the traditionally German influenced festival, which not only included copious amounts of local and imported beers and ales, but also German cuisine, live musical performances and events for all the family.

Medina hailed the event a success, citing many German nationals that have travelled from across the province to attend the gathering.

“This year, the beer festival has to be gaining prestige year after year, and I have seen and heard that Germans have come from Malaga, Marbella and Almuñecar, and the Tourist Office has confirmed to me that they have been receiving enquiries for months to see when it was.”

Torrox has one of the largest German communities in the province, with over 3,000 registered permanent residents and a further 7,000 having second properties in the town.

Estimates believe in total 50,000 people attended the event over the three days to mark the end of a successful summer in the town of Torrox.
