John Bercow: Westminster must reconvene ‘without delay’ following court ruling

House Of Commons must reconvene “without delay” following today’s historic Supreme Court ruling, the Speaker of the House of Commons has said.

The speaker of the House of the Commons has said after the ruling of today’s court decision he’s immediately consulting with party leaders.

Mr Bercow said: “I welcome the Supreme Court’s judgment that the prorogation of Parliament was unlawful.

“The judges have rejected the Government’s claim that closing down Parliament for five weeks was merely standard practice to allow for a new Queen’s Speech. In reaching their conclusion, they have vindicated the right and duty of Parliament to meet at this crucial time to scrutinise the executive and hold Ministers to account.

As the embodiment of our Parliamentary democracy, the House of Commons must convene without delay.

“To this end, I will now consult the party leaders as a matter of urgency.”

Bercow recently stated himself he will be stepping down after his last stint as the speaker of the House of Commons.

As one who was considered privately not in agreement with Boris Johnson’s now unlawful actions he will now pull the House Of Commons back to work in short time to get politicians  working again for their constituents.
