FIREFIGHTERS have rescued five puppies that appeared to have been buried alive in Spain.
According to a local animal protection society a girl walking along a road in Alguaire (Lleifa) gave the warning after hearing some barking. She could just about see one of the pups through a deep crack in the ground.
Firefighters from Almenar Station (Lleida) attended, finding and rescuing five Labrador puppies, four male and one female. All were in good health.
The Alguaire Animal Group has condemned the burial of the animals and is now rehoming the puppies, which are between two and three months old.
