It’s with a heavy heart that we report the death toll in the Costa Blanca has risen to 7 after the 66 year old reported missing Dutchman had his corpse discovered at 12.40 today confirmed the Guardia Civil.
The Dutchman was seen being swept away on Sunday by torrent waters and was reported missing with fears mounting for his safety.
Fears turned to reality today when a body was discovered by a volunteer worker in a drainage ditch as waters lowered, who immediately informed the Guardia Civil.
The Guardia Civil promptly rescued the corpse from the ditch and confirmed the death.
A helicopter was flown in to collect the corpse shortly after the confirmation and took the body to the local mortuary, whilst the volunteer worker has reportedly gone for counselling after discovering the gruesome find.
This now raises the body count to 7 fatalities due to the catastrophic storms in the region.
