American Singer, Eddie Money, passes away aged 70

THE popular American singer, Edward Joseph Mahoney, better known by his stage name of Eddie Money, has passed away.

During his 40 years in show business he released 11 albums and sold nearly 30 million records.

His death was announced in a statement released by the singers family, saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. It’s so hard to imagine our world without him. However he will live on forever through his music.”

It was during the filming for his reality TV show, Real Money, that he revealed that he was suffering from stage four esophageal cancer.

In a clip from the show, he spoke on the diagnosis, “Am I gonna live a long time? Who knows, it’s in God’s hands. But you know what? I’ll take every day I can get. Every day above ground is a good day.”

Eddie was born in 1949 in Brooklyn, New York. He released his first album in 1977 which went on to sell over 2 million copies.

A popular figure during the rise of MTV during the 80s, 1986 would see the release of his best selling album Can’t Hold Me Back containing his most famous single Take Me Home Tonight featuring Ronnie Spector.
