Australia heartbroken by Spain in double overtime thriller
The Aussie boomers showed lots of respect for Spain, there was not ref calls, even when the pressure was on in the double overtime. Spain holding their nerve and raising their game when it mattered.
Gasol had 29 of his 33 points in the second half and two overtimes while Rubio had 19 and Llull had 17, most of them when it mattered in the second half.
Australia didn’t make it easy for the Spanish side. In fact, the Boomers led for the vast majority of the game, but the Spanish simply refused to let go. Brilliance from Gasol and some shrewd tactical adjustments from coach Scariola were the key components in the double overtime.
Spain marches on – and will take on either France or Argentina (who play later tonight) in the gold-medal game this Sunday.
If this semi-final is anything to go by, the final will be epic.
