CHILD STAR Mya-Lecia starred in various CBBC shows. She passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at the age of 16. A coroner has ruled her death as misadventure.
Mya-Lecia Naylor died in her family home in South Norwood, South London. Emergency services first responded to a call to the address 10 am on Sunday, April 7, to reports of a teenage girl in cardiac arrest, however, Naylor was pronounced dead half an hour later at Croydon University Hospital.
At an inquest held yesterday (Monday) the assistant coroner ruled the passing as death by misadventure, saying Naylor “did not intend to end her own life”.
The inquest heard she was found hanged. She had spent the evening before her death watching a film with her family. Her family said she had been grounded and stopped from going to a party so as to concentrate on her GCSE revisions.
A toxicology report revealed no evidence of drugs or alcohol in her system.
Assistant Coroner, Toby Watkin concluded that the teenager “did not intend to end her own life” and concluded her death was by misadventure.
Mya-Lecia’s father Martin Naylor added he had seen her two hours before she was found, and felt it was “a spur of the moment” act and she had not intended to kill herself.
He told South London Coroners Court: “I honestly believe she was just making some sort of point.
“I genuinely believe she did not mean to do it.”
Searches of her phones, laptop, and social media accounts did not present anything suspicious.
EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost – to suicide.
