GUARDIA Civil and the Junta de Andalucia Health department seized 22.5 tonnes of food items from a warehouse on a Viator industrial estate lacking the necessary documentation to operate.
According to Spanish press the warehouse supplied a number of kebab fast-food restaurants in Almeria and in adjacent provinces. It had not been functioning long, and was discovered as part of a routine inspection of one of the outlets when it became apparent there was a problem with some of the documents produced.
A Guardia Civil video of the warehouse showed stock including meat, hamburgers and sauces stored somewhat chaotically.
Analyses of the seized products will now be carried out to see if anything is contaminated, Spanish press reported.
Spanish media also said Andalucia regional government and Guardia Civil inspections during August’s Dreambeach electronic musical festival in Villaricos found that five footstalls selling meat products were not operating with the minimum legal hygiene and refrigeration conditions in place. The authorities seized some 100 kilos of food.
