A 70-year-old man from Madrid died last week as he tried to save his wife.
The incident occurred at the Poniente beach in Benidorm at approximately 18.00, when the woman fell over whilst enjoying a dip in the Mediterranean sea. The husband rushed to his wife’s side aware that she was unable to swim.
Unfortunately in his attempt to save his wife, his own safety wasn’t contemplated and it was he who tragically lost his life in the end. The medical staff attempted to revive him for over 40 minutes, however nothing could be done to aid him.
The couple, from Madrid, had been enjoying a short vacation in the coastal area which unfortunately has ended tragically. It’s still unsure if the man died from drowning or a heart attack.
There have been 21 drownings in the region this summer, 18 of which have been occurred in beach areas.
