THE old Francisco Fenoy school in Albox has been demolished, making way for the construction of 100 underground garages.
A bulldozer moved in last week to bring down the building dating back to the 1950s and most recently used as an adults’ college.
Albox council said local residents would have the opportunity to acquire the garages, some of which will have storerooms.
“The possibility of creating a floor of municipal offices will be looked at, although this option has yet to be studied by municipal experts”, Albox Mayor Francisco Torrecillas told local press.
The decision to carry out the demolition was due to the dilapidated state of the building, which the Education Delegation abandoned six years ago, moving the facilities to the Virgen del Saliente school, the local authority said.
It 2012 it had to be evacuated due to an earthquake, following which the condition of the structure became increasingly worse, the council added.
