SCARED: Group of Dogfish spotted in Tenerife. CREDIT: Wikipedia
BATHERS were shocked when a group of baby sharks descended on the beach of El Médano, in the south of Tenerife.
Many bathers assumed they were any normal fish but when they found out their species many returned to the beach scared.
However, the fish in question are actually Dogfigh, a small species of shark very common in the Canary Islands and a species that has been sighted there for hundreds of years.
What is unusual about the sighting is the fact that the group of fish didn’t seem to be phased by the presence of bathers.
Normally a shy and timid fish, this latest sighting showed the fish swimming very close to swimmers, even interacting with them.
Marine experts have reassured holiday makers that although these small sharks do have teeth, they are harmless and pose no threat to humans.
