AN ECO-CONSCIOUS farmer is introducing solar power to fuel the age-old skill of cheese making.
Eager to reduce his carbon footprint in the traditional artisan industry, Jordi Benages from Xert in Castellon, has raised €7,200 from a crowd-funding campaign for the high-tech tools at his sheep farm.
The young farmer launched his bid on the platform Lateuateera where entrepreneurs ask for cash for ecological projects. In less than a month his ‘Valencian Cheese That Saves the Planet’ project surpassed its €6,900 goal and netted €300 from 148 sponsors.
Benages and his family set up the Queseria La Planeta sheep farm in 2013 to produce organic artisan cheese.
