THE SABIC Plastics factory has been fined €52,000 for burning hazardous waste which released 12 different metals and other dangerous compounds into the skies above La Aljorra.
Sabic are being investigated by the Environmental Agency and the Department for Health of Murcia for events that reportedly took place over two years ago according to Jose Alberto Gonzalez of La Verdad.
The Department of Health studied samples of the soil, air and water surrounding the factory. They found that the levels of arsenic, amongst other heavy metals and toxins, could damage the ecosystem and was dangerous to humans.
