Denia Town Hall responded to the pleas from local residents to clean up many of the local beaches by deploying a special device to clean the beaches and remove excess seaweed that was dumped on the shore in recent days, as reported by various locals through social media.
During the night on Wednesday and into Thursday morning, the cleaning services removed 130 tonnes at Marineta, 110 tonnes at Gosset, 20 tonnes at Les Marines and manual cleaning was carried out at Trampolí.
Photos had appeared recently on social media of mountains of seaweed that had been spewed onto the beach and was causing horrible smells in the local area and making it impossible for residents to swim.
