THE Spanish flag that normally flies over the Plaza de la Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME) in Villamayor de Calatrava was reported missing on Saturday evening but was found on Monday by a local outside his house on the opposite side of the town.
The man that found the flag washed it and returned it to the Town Hall who replaced it on its mast at an event attended by the mayor, Juan Antonio Callejas, on Tuesday at 11.30 am.
The national flag was raised at the top of a seven metre mast, placed on a large volcanic stone that is two metres high that was brought in specially from the nearby “El Morrón”, the oldest volcano in the Volcanic Field of Calatrava.
Its disappearance gave rise to some uproar amongst local resident.
