Spain’s most “Instagrammable” road revealed

A recent survey conducted by Avis Spain has revealed the road that is most sought after for social media influencers and travel writers.

The AP-66 running through the Barrios de Luna Reservoir in Leon has come out on top in the survey thanks to its stunning backdrop and spectacular suspension bridge.

Avis 2019 Travel Trends report has revealed that there is a growing habit among young Europeans to decide on holiday destinations on how attractive the area is for their social media platforms.

A total of 58% of travellers between 18 and 24 years old are influenced by the aesthetics of their holidays and suitability to appear on platforms such as Instagram.

At least 64 per cent of younger travellers use their social during their travels and 28% admit to publishing several times a day on these networks whilst away.

The trend has also led to a rising number of tourists venturing off the beaten tracks and visiting rural and remote areas not previously thought of as “typical” holiday destinations.

This growing trend has caught the eye of the Ministry of Tourism, as the government are currently embroiled in a battle to curb rural depopulation. These figures show that rural areas and villages do have a position amongst the newer generation and in turn warrant investment.
