A BLAZE which broke out earlier today at the Arenal Golf park in Benalmadena is now under control, the local council reported.

Images posted on social media showed the blaze produced a dense plume of black smoke which was visible from some distance.

Commenting on the incident on Twitter, Benalmadena Mayor Victor Navas said fire fighters, local police and civil protection were at the scene. Both Navas and the local authority thanked the emergency services for their rapid response.

The council also issued a reminder to the public to call 112 if they noticed smoke or suspected a fire had started up, the Mayor commenting, “95 per cent of the time it is the hand of man responsible for the fires.”

Also posted on social media however were comments maintaining the park had been left in an abandoned state and suggesting the local council could do more to keep areas like the Arenal Golf park cleared of dried out bushes.
