Killed by falling branch in northern Spain

AN evening stroll turned to tragedy when a 67-year-old woman was killed by a falling branch.

The resident of As Pontes de García Rodríguez (A Coruña), died after she was struck by the branch while walking through a beach-side pine forest at A Magdalena, in the municipality of Cabanas.

The event took place at 8pm on Wednesday and several people who saw what happened rushed to help and attended her until medical services arrived.

But there was nothing that medics could do to save the woman’s life.

The body of the woman was transferred to the Naval Hospital in Ferrol where a post mortem examination was carried out.

Local Police and Guardia Civil cordoned off the site until firefighters had checked the tree for safety.
