A DOG has been knifed to death after it attacked and seriously injured a woman and slightly hurt two men in the family home.
The Akita Inu attacked the family in the town of Mataro (Barcelona). The animal was owned by one of the adult children and for unknown reasons, shortly after midnight on Tuesday, attacked the mother, aged about 60, the husband, aged 65, and one of the children, aged 25.
Faced with the violence of the attack, a second son took a knife and stabbed the dog several times.
The woman was rushed to Trias i Pujol hospital with very severe wounds, while the two injured men were slightly hurt.
The Akita Inu is a dog that comes from Japan and has its origins in the Japanese warriors, who used it for defence and attack, and to hunt bears. In Spain it is catalogued as a dangerous breed.
Currently, the law considers potentially dangerous the following breeds and their crosses: Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu and Akita Inu.
