A MAN who barricaded himself into his house while threatening to kill his two-year-old-daughter and brandishing a large knife has been given an eight-month suspended jail sentence.

Police had been called to the property in the Toledo province town of Madridejos by the convicted man’s ex-girlfriend, who said her daughter was trapped in the house with the man.

She told officers he was drunk and in an ‘altered state’ and was threatening to kill his daughter with a 19 centimetre-bladed knife.

They threw a cordon round the home then started negotiating with the man who was described as “very excited and aggressive.”

Police spent several hours trying to calm the man down but in the end decided to storm the building to subdue him. After a “great struggle” they managed to disarm and handcuff him and reunited the unharmed girl with her mother.

Just two days later a trial was help. All interested parties agreed to the eight-month suspended sentence. If he commits any crime in the next 24 months he will go to prison.

In addition, during this 24-month period, the convicted person must not approach his ex-partner or his two children, nor can he exercise parental authority, and the possession and carrying of weapons is prohibited.
