A CRIMINAL network of thieves suspected of stealing and redistributing disabled parking badges has been closed down by National Police in Malaga.
In total, five people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the operation.
The group allegedly targeted cars parked in disabled bays, smashing the window and making off with the disabled card displayed on the cars dashboard.
The investigation started after three reports of stolen cards were made in Malaga city centre between May 24 and May 30.
National Police traced the source of the crimes to a 54-year-old Spanish man who works as a parking attendant in the city.
He was interviewed and it was revealed he was “hired” to steal the cards by members of a well off family in the area, who would pay the man €50 per card, then distribute them to friends and family.
As well as the thief of the cards, four members of the buyer’s family have been arrested in connection to the crime.
The case is currently under review in the Court of Instruction Number Seven of Malaga.
