Marbella ranks among top booziest destinations worldwide, study claims

Market in Marbella: Real estate is predicted to experience a slight crash but quick recovery.

MARBELLA has ranked among the most booziest destinations in the world, according to a website which monitors alcohol intake.

Alcohol.org’s study of around 1,000 Instagram posts from 143 cities across the globe found 3.9 per cent hashtagged references to booze. The US city of Portland, Oregon, topped the ranking with 9.9 per cent of tags.

Alcohol.org said: “Home to some of the most exclusive club venues on the Costa del Sol, Marbella’s nightlife is glamorous and luxurious.

“Many clubs host international DJs and have private bar areas, terraces and even jacuzzis to entertain their VIPs, so it’s no surprise tourist post their adventures here on Instagram.”

The study collated posts with the hashtags ‘Vacation’ and ‘Vacay’.

Alcohol.org is an organisation which provides supportive information to addicts. They said it was ‘crucial’ to exercise caution while drinking in warm weather.

“Alcohol acts as a dehydrator which can result in heat stroke and exhaustion. Up to 70 per cent of all water recreation deaths of teens and adults involve alcohol consumption,” the site said.

In general across the posts studied, the most photographed drinks were cocktails, with more than 36 per cent of pictures containing them.

The study also revealed that posts featuring alcohol gained approximately half as many likes as those which did not.

“No one wants to be unwell on vacation so it’s important to monitor your alcohol intake, especially when you’re away from home or in unfamiliar surroundings,” an Alcohol.org spokesperson said.

“If you or someone you know is struggling with alcoholism, it’s never too late to get help. There are personalised treatment plans and support guides available to assist you on your path to recovery,” the spokesperson added.
