BALLOTS are set to be counted for the Conservative leadership election today (Monday) as voting closes ahead of the winner being crowned tomorrow (Tuesday).

Party members have been voting to choose either former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson or current office holder Jeremy Hunt to succeed Theresa May as prime minister.

Johnson, who has run on a staunchly pro-Brexit platform, is widely expected to win the election. Members have until 6pm Spanish time to cast their votes.

The winner will be announced tomorrow. May will then take her final session of Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday before resigning and advising the Queen to appoint the winner as her successor.
