Spectator killed at the La Laguna Rally in Tenerife

A 72 year old Spanish man has been killed after a car left the road at the La  Laguna Rally on the island of Tenerife.

The accident happened at 3.30 pm yesterday (Saturday, July 20) during the sixth stage of the rally.

The car reportedly left the road on a tight right hand bend along the TF-226 which runs from La Esperanza to Agua García. The car skidded out of control and entered the spectator area, coming to a halt down a small ditch.

According to videos taken at the scene, the Nissan Micra rally car was driven by M. Exposito and J. Martin.

Authorities have confirmed that two other spectators suffered minor injuries.

After the accident, the rally was suspended pending an investigation and condolences have been shared to the victims family.
