Man drowns after falling 30 metres through waterfall in Axarquia

A 55-YEAR-OLD man has died after he attempted to scale the 30 meter cliffs
at an Axarquia beach Maro´s waterfall.

According to 112 Emergencies Andalusia, the man was climbing at Maro beach,
near Nerja, with his daughter and another partner.

The fall occurred at around 1.40pm on Sunday. As reported by the emergency
service, the companion and daughter knew something was wrong when the man
did not come out of the water and respond to them.

The 55-year-old was carrying equipment for canyoning as he scaled the cliff
beside the waterfall.

Many teams were involved in the removal of the body. The Civil Guard
reported to the GEA divers, the Ereim mountain rescue team, the Local Police
and the Public Health Emergencies Company (EPES).

The body was removed from the sea at 4.30pm. It was taken to the nearby
beach of Maro.
