A SCOTTISH father and daughter were left stranded in a Spanish resort after they had their cash and passports stolen.

Gerry Hannah, aged 37, and 15-year-old Caitlin were checking out of the four-star H10 Vintage Salou hotel when thieves snatched a Gucci bag from between their feet, reported the Scottish Sun Online.

Mr Hannah says it contained not just their passports and boarding passes, but also thousands of pounds worth of belongings including Tom Ford sunglasses, Beats headphones and hundreds of pounds in cash.

He added that Caitlin was in floods of tears as they realised they would miss their flight home. Fellow holiday makers had reported seeing two men loitering in the hotel lobby and acting suspiciously.

Mr Hannah and Caitlin decided to get the Jet2 Holidays coach to the airport to speak to the holiday firm’s staff asking for help. He says they were unhelpful, telling him to go to Barcelona for emergency travel papers despite the fact he had no money or bank cards.

Luckily for the pair the hotel was sympathetic and allowed then to stay for two nights free of charge as they waited for money to be wired over by a relative. But they say they were stuck indoors the while time as “they had no sunscreen.”

Eventually the £200 needed for temporary passports arrived and they caught a flight home.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear about Mr Hannah’s situation, however our team did everything they can to help, including driving to Barcelona to pick up new passports and deliver them back to him.

“We have advised Mr Hannah to speak to his travel insurer regarding any costs incurred as a result of this unfortunate incident.”
