Rod Stewart rocks the Costa del Sol in show at Fuengirola Castle

BRITISH singer Rod Stewart rocked the Costa del Sol yesterday (Wednesday) with a show at Fuengirola Castle where he treated fans to several classics.

The 74-year-old commanded the stage as he strutted and sang his way through a back catalogue spanning decades. The artist was touring in support of his new Blood Red Roses album, his 30th studio record.

He was accompanied by an ensemble including backing singers, dancers, fiddlers and a harp player on the stage at the castle, known as Mare Nostrum when used as a concert venue.

Stewart sang hits including Maggie May, Forever Young and Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? among others including songs from his days with The Faces.

The show also featured a tribute to Second World War veterans with Stewart performing while footage and pictures of the D-Day landings were projected behind him.

This year is the 75th anniversary of the Normandy invasion and Stewart was born in 1944, the year it took place.

Stewart crossed the English Channel with veterans as part of the anniversary celebrations and spoke of how he felt honoured to be with them.

The 74-year-old shared anecdotes and jokes between songs. At one point he quipped he had been down to Marbella and that it ‘costs a few bob down there’.

He also spoke about working with The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood in the early 1970’s. At one point he revived his cover of Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston’s It Takes Two which he famously recorded with Tina Turner in 1990.
