Nine people rescued when fire broke out on luxury yacht

NINE people had to be rescued when a fire broke out aboard a luxury yacht.
Mallorca firemen were alerted at 1.40am on Monday that there was fire in the engine room of the 28-metre ‘UM7’ and help was needed.
The boat was south of Mallorca, seven miles from Port Adriano, in El Toro (Calvià). Maritime Rescue (Salvamento Marítimo) sent rescue boat Salvamar Acrux to the scene.
The crew had initially managed to quell the fire, but it flared up again when the yacht was being towed to port.
Firefighters from Llucmajor and Calvià were waiting tasked with extinguishing the fire when the yacht docked at Port Adriano, at around 3.30 am.
The flames were finally put out at around 6.55 am. No one was hurt in the incident.
The ‘UM7’ is a luxury Sunseeker Predator 92 yacht built in 2008 and is owned by a rental company in Evissa, and sails under the Spanish flag.
