Oxford school unknowingly hires Spanish killer

Iria Suárez González, 35, was hired by Oxford Primary School for just under a year as a teaching assistant.

However, unknown to the school, she was once one of Spain’s most notorious killers, after her and a friend murdered a teenage girl back in 2000.

Clara Garcia was lured by Iria and a friend to a patch of wasteland in Cadiz where she was stabbed 32 times and had her throat slit. It is thought the girls sought the fame and notoriety of the murder and “wanted to know what it felt like” to kill someone.

She was sentenced to eight years in youth custody and was released in 2006 where she moved to the UK and started applying for school teaching jobs without revealing her criminal history.

She was then unknowingly hired by the oxford school in the September of 2016 and left the following July.

A report was submitted however to Crimestoppers anonymously regarding the woman’s history and her past was revealed to Oxfordshire authorities in the October of 2017.

She was arrested however the charges of fraud by false representation were dropped due to lack of evidence. In Spain, all crimes committed by minors are “spent” after 10 years once the criminal reaches 18. However in the UK there is no such law.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council said: “Recruitment is not the responsibility of the council, it is the responsibility of the individual school.

“The school had followed safer recruitment processes in terms of the recruitment of this individual. We would stress this charge was not in any way related to any children at the school and only came to light after the staff member had left the school.”
