FIREFIGHTERS and volunteers have collected around 700 kilograms of plastic waste and other rubbish from the seabed off the coast of Alicante City yesterday (Saturday). The personnel, from the firefighters’ diving unit, were joined by volunteers including some from local boating clubs. They were taking part in the area’s first More Mediterranean Without Plastics event.

Organisers said an 80-kilogram outboard boat engine found off Tiro de Pinchon was just one of the hundreds of items cleared from the seabed.
