GRAFFITI calling for the “mistreatment of males, whether boy or man”, has appeared on the Almeria city monument to Gabriel Cruz, the little boy found dead last year in the Cabo de Gata Natural park.

The message was daubed on the head of the feature shaped like a whale, which stands next to the sea at the end of Avenida Federico Garcia Lorca.

Eight-year old Gabriel, known to his friends and family as Little Fish, went missing from Las Hortichuelas near Nijar at the end of February 2018 sparking a huge search involving thousands of people. Two weeks later police charged the 43-year old girlfriend of Gabriel’s father with killing him when they found his lifeless body in the boot of her car.

Ana Julia Quezada’s trial is scheduled to get underway in September.

Gabriel’s parents opened the ‘The Whale of Gabriel and of Good People’ monument dedicated to their young son last December. His mother told hundreds of people who turned up for the inauguration that the area “was a way of trying to give back to all of you the love you all give to us, and especially to children.”
