The driver convicted of a multiple hit and run that injured several victims, and cost the life of a 35-year-old woman, has been sentenced to four years in prison.
The incident occurred in October 2016, when the driver of a vehicle lost control and veered into a public playground, running over several victims including a 2-year-old baby and leaving them with serious injuries.
It was reported that the driver, a 44 year old resident of Churriana, had been drinking previously and during the post-crash BAC test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.78 milligrams per litre of exhaled air. He was also recorded as doing 50kph within a 30kph zone and driving recklessly, veering onto the opposite side of the road and driving through red signals.
The now convicted man, was charged with multiple convictions including several crimes against road safety, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages. He is also convicted of one felony of reckless homicide and five others of grossly reckless injuries.
He has also been ordered to pay a compensation of 600,000 euros to the family of the victims.
The woman killed in the incident was a Benalmadena local and lived in the area with her husband and daughter who were playing in the play area at the time.
The family of the victim have since opened an initiative on Change.org to get the City Council to install a plaque with the name on in the playground.
