Man beat dog to death then tossed it in bin

A MAN has been arrested after a security camera filmed him beating a dog to death then tossing its lifeless body into a bin in Spain.

In the footage – which the Euro Weekly News has decided not to share as it is too upsetting – the man is seen to carry the small dog in his arms to the bins. He then places it on the ground and beats it several times on the head with a blunt object.

Next, he picks up the corpse and throws it in a communal bin before walking off seemingly unconcerned. The events all happened in broad daylight in the La Rioja region of Spain.

Now the Guardia Civil has arrested a 40-year-old Spanish man who is accused of animal mistreatment, for which he faces a sentence of between six and 18 months in prison.

The incident happened in the municipality of Autol on March 16, but the man could not be arrested as soon as he was identified as he had been admitted to a health clinic. He was finally arrested at the end of April and handed over to the judicial authorities.

Each year in Spain tens of thousands of dogs are thought to be killed, mainly by hunters who have decided they no longer need them. There have been many cases of galgos (greyhounds) being hung or tossed down disused wells.
