A DRIVER has destroyed the terrace of a bar in Torre del Mar after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel.
The man, who is aged around 40-years-old, reportedly tested negative for alcohol but refused to perform a drugs test at the Axarquia Hospital.
Café Bar Pastor in the centre of Torre del Mar was badly damaged after the car mounted the kerb and smashed into its front. According to Spanish media, the man reportedly told police he suffers from narcolepsy.
After suffering from minor injuries, the man was taken to the Axarquia Hospital where officers claim he showed ‘signs of being under the influence of drugs.’ After refusing to submit to drugs testing, the man was charged with offences against road safety.
The incident, which took place on Torre del Mar’s Plaza de la Axarquia, caused a stir in the town, with many locals taking to the streets to view the damage.
