Mummified corpse of a man found in a house in Spain

THE neighbours had not seen him for more than a year and thought he had moved to a second residence.

The police has found a second mummified body in a Madrid home in just one month. This time in the district of Vallecas. The body was discovered last Wednesday (May 1) when the National Police were called by neighbours to prevent squatting in an apartment in Pablo Neruda Avenue.

Santiago, road engineer and telephone operator of 70 years died more than a year ago due to natural causes. The house was also in a state of major neglect due to Santiago suffering from Diogenes syndrome.

Santiago was not married, had no children and wasn’t known to keep in contact with relatives. The neighbours presumed, due to his prolonged absence, that he had moved to a second house he owned in Sierra. It wasn’t until last week they decided to contact the victim’s cousin, who reported the disappearance to the police.

Just two weeks ago in the neighbourhood of Guindalerain. Agents came across the mummified corpse of an old woman, dead for five years, also of natural causes. According to sources close to the case, nobody noticed during all this time until a niece, who lives in Israel, warned the agents that she had not heard from her for a long time.
