SPAIN is the best country to travel alone in, according to a US-based magazine’s new ranking.
US News and World Report’s ranking placed Spain first in terms of the best offering for solo travellers.
It marks the second year in a row that Spain has come first in the ranking which was first done in the 1980’s. Italy came second and New Zealand third.
The magazine said Spain’s position was based on it being a friendly destination. The table, which scored countries out of 10 across a number of different factors, gave the kindness of Spanish people full marks.
Spain’s cultural and artistic offering was also highlighted. It came second on that measure to Italy in first and ahead of Greece in third.
The ranking placed those countries in the same order for their adventure tourism offering. Spain scored 9.3 on fun, 9.4 on weather and 4.6 for the ‘sexiness’ of its people.
Spanish fashion scored 8.1 and the country was given 7.5 in the modern category. The influence of its culture gained it a score of 8.7.
