POTENTIAL Environmental damage caused by a second runway at Alicante-Elche Airport, needs to be balanced with other measures, insisted the City Council as councillors addressed the Ministry for Public Works last Friday.
Whilst the proposed new runway to the north of the current one, is expected to stimulate significant urban growth and infrastructure improvements around the Torrelano area, councillors also pointed out that the expansion could cause “serious environmental damage”.
With that in mind, it is proposed that there should be a considered programme of private land acquisitions. Those would be of “environmental interest”, and include expansion of the municipal natural site of Clot de Galvany.
