NATIONAL POLICE officers have rescued a 73-year-old woman from her Estepona home before a fire gutted the building.
Police sources said they were alerted to the blaze at around 5.30pm on Sunday shortly after it broke out at the house on Calle Torrox in the town’s rural outskirts.
Officers arrived before firefighters to find a plume of black smoke and flames coming from the building.
Police were able to enter and found the woman, who lives alone, affected by smoke inhalation. She was unable to move because of pre-existing mobility issues.
Officers fashioned a stretcher from a blanket and carried the woman out of her home where medical personnel gave her first aid treatment. She was then taken to hospital while firefighters put out the blaze.
Officers have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire which remains open.
