Spain’s Guardia Civil boss sends message of support to Cathedral of Nôtre-Dame

THE Director General of the Guardia Civil, Felix Azón, wrote a letter to Bishop Patrick Chauvet, Rector of the Cathedral of Nôtre-Dame, to whom he conveyed his “enormous sadness” in the wake of the catastrophe fire which “affects us all”.

Azón, on behalf of all the officers, offered support to the French people, as well as to the sacristan of the cathedral, Stéphane Urbain, through the Rector of Nôtre-Dame, revealing campaigns, promoted from Spain, for the restoration of the Cathedral.

Coming from a family in Huesca, Urbain holds the position of Honorary Ensign of the Guardia Civil and was decorated with the Cross of Merit of the Corps. As an example of this link, Urbain usually wears the uniform of a civil guard inside Nôtre-Dame, where there is also an image of the Virgen del Pilar, patron saint of the Guardia Civil.

In the same vein, Azón recalled the magnificent collaboration that the Civil Guard and the French National Gendarmerie maintain in favour of the freedom and security of the citizens of both countries, showing the deepest solidarity with this Institution.
