Lighten up

LIGHTER PRODUCTS: Warmer weather makes a great time to let natural radiance shine through. Inset credit: www.net-a-porter.com

NOW the warmer weather looks set to stay it could be time to think about using lighter formulas in our makeup and skincare.

Rich, thick products can work brilliantly during the colder winter months, helping to support out skin’s protective layer and adding some much-needed colour while sunshine is in short supply.

However, as the weather warms up our skin needs change and heavier formulas can begin feeling too much on the skin and even blocking pores.

If you prefer to switch to a lighter formula during the spring and summer months but are concerned about maintaining some level of coverage to conceal imperfections, there are several options, including the Beauty Balm (BB), Colour Correcting (CC) cream, or even a liquid highlighter. These lightweight creams bridge the gap between a moisturiser and a serum, while also containing a small amount of colour or light diffusing particles to offer a skin-perfecting effect.

For a CC cream which also contains SPF to protect against the sun, try MAC’s Lightful C + Coral Grass Tinted Cream SPF 30 with Radiance Booster (€39 for 40ml, www.maccosmetics.es.  Available in four shades, his colour-correcting cream promised to reduce the appearance of imperfections and control oil while increasing skin radiance. Infused with Coral Grass and vitamin C, the formula combines skincare with coverage for a light alternative to foundation.

Alternatively, try Garnier Skin Active BB Cream (€11.95 for 50ml, www.lookfantastic.es), which contains 90 per cent natural origin ingredients, including green tea and mineral pigments for a smooth finish and antioxidant protection.

If your priority is radiance, try combining a liquid highlighter with your normal moisturiser for an all over skin brightening effect. Check out Wander Beauty’s Catch the Light Highlighter and Glowtion (£35/€48.86 for 30 ml, www.net-a-porter.com). This product can be worn alone to blur imperfections, as a primer under makeup or even applied as a highlighter to the highest points of the face, and is infused with micro-fine pearl pigments to provide a subtle sheen.  Added aloe leaf extract, safflower seed oil and hyaluronic acid also soothe and moisturise.

Finally, if you prefer a bronzed look without the sunbathing, try the D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops from Drunk Elephant (£30/€35.02 for 30ml, www.cultbeauty.co.uk).  Designed to be added to a facial oil, serum or moisturiser, these drops offer a sun-kissed glow as well as the antioxidant benefits of vitamins D and F, and marula oil.
