Ten injured as plane crashes off runway during military exercise in Spain

ONE person has suffered a serious injury after a plane crashed off a runway and into a ditch during a military exercise in Spain this morning (Wednesday). Nine other people sustained less serious injuries.

The injured were transferred to the Regional Hospital of Jaca.

The incident occurred whilst carrying out an air-evacuation drill that formed part of the ECC Aragon 2019, a natural disaster simulation organised by the Military Emergency Unit, UME, and the Government of Aragon involving more than 3,500 military, emergency service and civilian personnel.

The province of Huesca has been hosting the events since Monday and was due to end on Friday 5.

The head of the Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME) Lieutenant General Miguel Alcañiz said that the cause of the accident is unknown but an air accident investigation is already underway.
