Ryanair plane diverts in Spain after ‘bird strike’ on take-off

A RYANAIR flight landed safely back in Spain after apparently suffering a ‘bird strike’ shortly after take-off.

The aircraft landed in Alicante on the Costa Blanca after taking off from Murcia’s Corvera airport to the south on Sunday evening.

Passengers onboard flight FR-8027 to London Stansted described how the plane appeared to suffer a bird strike a ‘few seconds’ after take-off before circling the area at low altitude.

One passenger said that every time that power was applied to the engines “there was a terrible noise”.

The incident was confirmed on a Spanish air traffic controller’s Twitter account.

After the aircraft landed safely it was inspected by engineers.

Passengers continued their journey to London later in a replacement plane.

Airport manager Aena said that instead of returning to Corvera, the pilot chose to divert to Alicante because Ryanair has its base and resources there to inspect the aircraft.

Following the incident staff at the Corvera airport inspected the runway but found no anomaly or trace of animals or objects. The airport, like the rest of the Aena network, has a hawk service to keep birds away from the airspace.
