PRIVATE LAUNCH: Police believe the group ran a semi-rigid boat from a mini-jetty. Credit: Guardia Civil
POLICE have arrested 51 people accused of importing large amounts of hashish to Spain in Velez-Malaga.
The group allegedly used at least 20 people for every trip, launching boats at night to carry large quantities of the narcotic by sea.
Police claim the group had previously been active in Cadiz but moved their operation to Almayate following police surveillance. The Guardia Civil claims the gang ran a mini-jetty off the coast of Almayate, using a semi-rigid boat to make up to 20 trips in the last few months alone.
Officers believe the group could have shared the jetty with other criminal organisations. Police claim they have busted all members of the gang, and its members are accused of crimes against public health, belonging to an organised crime group, and vehicle theft. Officers said they also seized goods totalling €530,000 from the ring.
